Safety

Your safety matters to us.

Crib is built for students, by students, and trust is at the core of everything we do. Every user is verified through their university email, and our community holds each other accountable through reviews and reporting. That said, we want you to be smart and safe when subletting.

Before You Book

  • Verify the listing in person. Always visit the space before committing to any arrangement. Photos can only show so much.
  • Check the host's profile. Look at their verification status, reviews, and response rate. A strong profile with real reviews is a good sign.
  • Use in-app messaging. Keep all communication within Crib. This protects both parties and creates a record if anything goes wrong.
  • Ask questions. Don't hesitate to ask about the space, the neighborhood, house rules, or anything else. A trustworthy host will be happy to answer.

Money and Payments

Never send money to someone you haven't met, for a space you haven't seen. This is the most common way students get scammed, on any platform.
  • Crib does not process payments. Financial arrangements are between you and the other user.
  • Meet in person before exchanging any money.
  • Be cautious of anyone who pressures you to pay quickly or through unusual methods (gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency).
  • Get any financial agreements in writing.

During Your Stay

  • Document the space. Take photos when you move in and when you move out. This protects everyone.
  • Communicate issues early. If something isn't as described, message the host through the app right away.
  • Know your rights. Subletting laws vary by state and city. Familiarize yourself with your local tenant protections.

Reporting Problems

If something feels wrong, report it. You can file a report directly in the app from any listing or user profile. Reports are reviewed by our team and kept confidential.

You should report:

  • Fraudulent or misleading listings
  • Harassment or threatening behavior
  • A space that doesn't match its description
  • Someone asking for payment outside normal channels
  • Any behavior that violates our Community Guidelines

Emergency Situations

If you are in immediate danger, call 911 first. Crib is not an emergency service. After ensuring your safety, you can report the situation to us at support@nucrib.com and we will take appropriate action on the platform.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • A host who refuses to show you the space before you pay
  • Prices that seem too good to be true
  • Pressure to move the conversation off the app
  • Requests for payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or crypto
  • A host who can't provide basic details about the space or neighborhood
  • Listings with only stock photos or photos that appear on other sites

Our Commitment

We review every report and take action when our guidelines are violated. This can include removing listings, suspending accounts, or permanently banning users. We're a small team, but we take safety seriously.
